QuickFit Connector Internal Construction

A quickfit connector was opened to analyze possible weakness in the design (joint)...

EPDM cable (see CERN store / specification here) is recommended. 1 synthetic rubber inner lining, 1 reinforcement consisting of one or two Kevlar inserts separated by one intermediate liner identical to the inner lining, 1 outer covering identical to the inner lining. This cable has been used for years at CERN (for magnet), with a long lifetime and robustness guaranted.

LHC Water Layout Characteristics

CERN uses INOX-316L material for its demonstrated reliability versus time and demineralized water environment with medium fluid velocity. Assemblies are cylindric type (not conic), and then requiring some additional joint sometimes, to allow to dismantle the pieces for repair.

Crimped fitting gives the insurance to respect the 20 bars minimum pressure the assembly must cope with (pressure test).

Flowmeters recommended by CERN/SY-EPC

CERN/SY-EPC uses generally Eletta product for its proven robustness, based on adequate reference type...

The prefered reference is V15-GSS15. The flowmeter shall be or all stainless steel (preferred), or V15-GL15+canigen treatment (which is still compatible with CERN demineralised water for 20-30 years of operation). The thickness of the canigen treatment is 25 µm, and the resulting colour of the treatment (for checking) is nickel. The internal contact should be used with gold treatment (corrosion if too small current typically less than 150 mA applied to standard material contact). Ag treatment still under investigation to determine if gold alloy is mandatory. Also the membrane material should be EPDM for best lifetime (Nitrile is a correct choice, even if lower than EPDM, when FPM (viton) is forbidden in radiation environment).
