Spare management is a key concept for maintaining high machine availability. This concept evolves with nature of both machine (underground, in the accelerator chain) and converters (redundant or not).
This strategy can lead to a high number of extra operational units needs, depending on number of converter in operation. See an example below of only 4 converters in operation (2 FGC3 in a single chassis) in HL-LHC machine, requiring up to 8 FGC3 units, once considered: IT String, Lab, and installed spare units following HL-LHC spare philosophy described above.
