Introduction

This page indicates which preferred software to use & how to exchange files at CERN.

Context

The section decided to promote use of open source softwares when possible (office suite, simulation, web-editor etc...), in order to improve flexibility (allowing remote teleworking from Linux home station for example) and as a support of open source. As a result, using ODF (LibreOffice x) is now possible and fully functional with support of dedicated templates.

Exchanging files with colleagues

Adequate software should be used when editing documents, to maintain effective flow and reduce incompatibility effect. Also, when exchanging documents wider at CERN, OOXML documents should be used. This is particularly the case for documents which could be co-edited (functional specification), or other documents exchanged with purchasing services.
