This page gives the detailed events which can be encountered on the CERN AC Mains network, and the way the converter is expected to react.
Some of the expected events on CERN networks are covered in these presentations:

  • CAS: Power Converters & Power Quality, 2014, K. Kahle .ppt.
  • TS: Disturbances & power quality of CERN's Electrical Network, 2004, K. Kahle .pdf.
  • Main Parameters of the LHC 400/230 V distribution System, from G Fernqvist, J Pererson 2000 .pdf
  • Courants harmoniques générés par des convertisseurs à pont de diodes, de V Montabonnet 2001 .edms

Whatever the output power is, any phase loss (partial or complete, on one or all phases) shall be treated adequately in the design not to lead to damping resistor or active component in the input side being stressed over-limit.

Description of AC Mains events and their impact on power converters .doc

A-Case B-Case
No component damage, the Power Supply shall continue operation by fulfilling its nominal performance. No component damage, the Power Supply shall not interrupt operation during the test: its performance may temporarily deviate, but it shall automatically recover in the shortest possible time after the end of the transient.
