Converter Modelisation
List of electrical sub-systems being studied and documented.
Design Notes
- (2016-09-20) Informal Meeting:
- Raul => Jean Paul: cost estimation.
- A cost estimate of the converter is given to Jean Paul, see email here. Cost - including DCCT and FGC? - uncertainty comes from DCCT choice related to precision requirements. Email .pdf
- (2016-09-16) Informal Meeting:
- Yves + Jean Paul + Michele: Project.
- Raul is announced as the project leader.
- A pre-plan / overview (spending profile, budget estimation) is due to 2016-09-30.
- Know milestones are: SM18 (end of 2020), Finance Comittee (end of 2021), delivering the converters to HL-LHC (2024..2025.)
- Design will be based on R2E-LHC600A-10V converter, trying to re-use power modules as much as possible, with control and protection modules to be reworked.
- A synergy is certainly possible with new 60A and 120A to be re-designed (60A = 2x 60A//, and 120A = 3x 60A// - n+1 config).
- (2016-09-01) Informal Meeting:
- Yves + Jean Paul: Converter size.
- HL-LHC2kA-10V size is quickly estimated to two standard power racks. Indeed, in case the n+1 redundancy is used, and taken into account the [±400 A; ±10V] sub module from R2E-LHC600A-10V project, a full rack could house up to 6x sub-power modules. A second rack would be dedicated to the crowbar, power source control, fgc controller crate, and the two DCCTs.
